Shivraj Singh Chouhan is the Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare and Rural Development of India. In this role he leads national agriculture programmes aimed at making farming a profitable enterprise and India's farmers self-reliant and self-respecting. He champions a farmer-centric approach that connects farmers with modern knowledge, innovation, and technology.
The flagship programmes include the nationwide Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan and the Krishi Chaupal 'Lab to Land' initiative on the DD Kisan Channel. The page also covers Madhya Pradesh schemes such as the Mukhyamantri Kisan Kalyan Yojana, the Bhavantar Bhugtan Yojana, the Irrigation Revolution, and the Balaram Talab Yojana. Additional schemes include the Mukhyamantri Krishak Mitra Yojana, Atal Kisan Yojana, Natural Farming Development Scheme, Crop Diversification Incentive Scheme, and Mukhyamantri Solar Pump Yojana.
The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan was a 15-day nationwide campaign led by Shivraj Singh Chouhan, launched on 29 May from Puri, Odisha. It held direct interaction with over 1.12 crore farmers across the country, with teams reaching more than 1 lakh villages and over 55,000 farmer interaction programmes organised. A total of 2,170 scientific teams visited villages under the 'Lab to Land' approach to share knowledge, innovations, and solutions.
Krishi Chaupal is a programme on the DD Kisan Channel launched on 07 December 2024 under the leadership of Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Guided by the vision of 'Lab to Land' and 'Seed to Market', it brings scientists and farmers together on the first Saturday of every month to discuss new technologies. The aim is to bridge the gap between science and farmers and make farming simpler, modern, and more profitable.
Launched in September 2020, the Mukhyamantri Kisan Kalyan Yojana provides farmers ₹6,000 annually as financial assistance, in addition to the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi benefit. By March 2025, over 83 lakh farmers had received financial support of around ₹17,500 crore under this scheme.
The initiative aims to transform agriculture into a profitable enterprise and improve farmers' livelihoods. It does so through direct financial assistance, price protection when crops sell below MSP, expanded irrigation, crop insurance, farm mechanization, and affordable power for irrigation. It also promotes natural farming, crop diversification, and solar pumps to support sustainable agriculture and increase farmers' income.
